During our stay at the Mittelrhein we stayed at Weingut Hans Jürgen Jost in Bacharach. The rooms are typically German, and without much fuss. The food is traditional, but very good, the wines are excellent. We found out when Herr Jost invited us and the other guests at a tour in his winery. With a smile on his face Herr Jost tells about his call to winemaker "this was the only option for me" and on his first vacation in a long time. No fun at all, to relax all day was nothing for him and he glad to get back to work in his vineyard.Family museumAt the tour we were taken to the cellars and storage next to the winery we were taken to the family museum. Not just old tools for working in the vineyard, but even old stock books and various other trinkets. Just a look in the era before the Second World War and therefore fun. Herr Jost is amusing and clearly has his heart in wine. After the tour, we invited with other guests to taste a glass of wine in the restaurant while enjoying some local hams. As said the wines are really nice.A nice visit with an unexpected glimpse into the past.
