Everywhere in the village Schloss Vollrads is indicated on the signs. We drive up through the vineyards and see already from far the great Donjon Tower with next to it the great yellow castle. This romantic look is very promising. Coming through the gate, we are not disappointed at all. A beautifully landscaped garden with a large pond including fountain makes us happy. Unfortunately, the restaurant is closed today, but the tasting room is open. It has a nice atmosphere and we take the time to have a look at all the special wines. Unfortunately, we are invited after half an hour of waiting, at the bar to taste, so we sit down slightly irritated. The couple next to us take so much time of the man behind the bar, we hardly don’t get any wine to taste and on top of that does not speak to us at all. Too bad, because there seems to be enough stories to tell. For example, what is the story behind the specially shaped bottles? What is the history of the winery (this goes back to the 13th century)? And of course we want to know everything about wine. After the first wines (Riesling with a bit of minerality, but very modest) we decide to leave. We probably are a bit unlucky this time.Opening vinothequeEaster to November: Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 18:00Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 11.00 to 19.00
