Francois Mossu is a winery based in Voiteur, a village in the French Jura. It produces the typical Jura wines like Chateau Chalon, Savagnin and Vin de paille. Francois Mossu is a very amiable person, who is proud of his products. Tipped by the owner of a beautiful mansion in Voiteur, Château Saint-martin, we ended up with Francois Mossu.Despite the very hot weather Francois was busy working on his fields at Chateau Chalon. It was agreed that at the end of the day we could have some tasting at his home. That was very nice. He gave us a detailed explanation of the wine, the grapes for his Vin de paille dried in trays. Of course, we tasted his wines. The 2000 Cotes de Jura, Savagnin is an excellent wine with nut flavors, somewhat similar to sherry. It is nice to combine with dishes with mushrooms. A real treat for the connoisseur: his 1997 Chateau Chalon, Vin Jaune real. Soon I will taste how this wine has been developed over the years. I think it has become very good. The 1999 Vin de Paille of Mossu, sweet, complex, is an excellent combination with a delicious dessert. As a joke I got a tryout with no label, ala Chateau Chalon wine but aged 8 years. The drinks were a sensation, a delicious sweet wine. Unfortunately I only got one bottle. It would not have been criminal to have had more bottles. Soon I will travel once again to Voiteur.
