Saale Unstrut

This region is the smallest and most northerly wine region of Germany. The rivers Saale and Unstrut which the area is named after, run through the south of Saxony-Anhalt. In this region wine plays its role for over a 1000 years. A manuscript of Emperor Otto III dated back to 998 is the oldest record of wine in the region that has been found.
