Dão

The region Dão is named after the river that runs through Dão. It is a DOC wine area in the middle of northern Portugal. It produces one of the best red wines of Portugal in the roughest areas of the country. The high granite mountains that surround the area, make sure the Atlantic has little influence on long, hot summers and wet winters. The sandy soil provides good drainage of to much water. Quinta de Cabriz is like Paço dos Cunhas de Santar part of the Global Wines company. We get a tour by one of the female winemakers. The cellar is large with many barrels, but also with an extensive vinotheque you can visit. One of the most important wines is the Four CCCC with a femalewoman (white) and male (red) version.
