From North to South here is the so-called Deutsche Weinstrasse (Wine Road) for 80km’s long. On the slopes of the Haardt mountains, the Pfälzer Forest, are the many vineyards with mainly Riesling grapes that give primarily strength and finesse to the wine. It is a warm and sunny area where you sometimes feel in a Mediterranean environment including fig trees, cypress trees and kiwi trees. The Pfalz is a versatile area. You can not only visit wineries, but there is also great hiking and biking in the Pfälzer Forest. The forest has numerous cabins where you can relax during the day and can eat and drink. In the northern Pfalz are a few excellent vineyards in the villages Wachenheim, Forst, and Deidesheim Ruppertsberg. The Südliche Weinstraße (the southern part of the Pfalz) produces intensely flavored white wines made from Grau- and Weißburgunder.
